GAMBIAN FOOTBALL TEAM QUALIFY for UNDER-20 WORLD CUP CANADA
Formerly known as the FIFA World Youth Championship, the 16th under-20 World Cup is a biennial event, this year hosted by Canada in six cities. The Gambian under-20 team has qualified for the tournament together with two other African countries, Zambia and Congo.
There are six opening round groups (24 countries) and matches start on July 1st, 2007 in Edmonton with the Group A teams: Austria, Canada, Chile and Congo. The second group includes Zambia who will be playing in Burnaby. The Gambian Team (Group C) will have some stiff competition when they play in Toronto, competing with Mexico, - winners of the last Under-20 World Cup - New Zealand and Portugal. The finals will be held in Toronto on 22nd July.
